Best Local Businesses: Postmark Balham

As our agents all live locally we’re always in the know about South West London goings-on and regularly support local businesses.  This month our focus is on Postmark, a fantastic greetings cards establishment in Balham.

All too often it is easiest to stop by at the supermarket on the way home and pick up a plastic wrapped greetings card, and all too often the messages available just aren’t personal enough, or unique enough, to give cause for celebration.

Postmark is one of those shops that cry out to be explored, and it’s no surprise that it has twice been named ‘best independent card retailer – London’.  Real care has been taken to bring together traditional, modern and unusual designs, and staff are always on hand to find you exactly the card you need.   Postmark also provides a unique in house franking service enabling customers to write and send their cards in the shop.

With a huge range of quality innovative cards you will never struggle to find the right words again!

LivetoGive London to Brighton 2012: A Ride to Remember

The LivetoGive cyclists get ready for their epic journey

The James Pendleton “Live to Give” team have ventured onto the roads of Britain on two wheels before.  This year, it was decided to repeat 2011’s London to Brighton trip, an epic 55 mile journey with more than a few hills along the way.  The trip on 17th June would raise money for LivetoGive’s four fantastic locally based charities.

Training began (for some) in the months leading up to the big day with practice runs around Richmond Park and other South West London Commons.  For the less organised members of the team, the race began in the week before the ride with a rush to find bicycles, gather equipment and cram several weeks of training into one!

On the big day the team assembled at James Pendleton’s Clapham South and Balham office at 8am and set off Sussex-wards on a motley collection of bicycles (including a tandem!), wearing their “Live to Give” t-shirts with pride.  With thousands of fundraisers riding alongside the team the atmosphere was jubilant and the morning bright and clear.

As the day progressed our team’s snack supplies dwindled but spirits remained high.  The challenge takes on average seven hours and proved to be one of those events which really brings people together and makes smaller challenges along the way really worth celebrating.  Indeed, our cyclists universally report the collective feeling of triumph on reaching the top of the infamous South Downs hill, which was duly celebrated with pints of cider.

As the team cycled down into Brighton, past the Sea Life Centre and the hordes of supporters gathered to cheer on the riders, joy and relief went hand in hand.  It was high fives all round as the LivetoGive fundraisers reached the finish line with the streets of Brighton close by.

The London to Brighton cycle ride was definitely a challenge for the LivetoGive team, who certainly encountered their fair share of mishaps (and sunburn) along the way!  Without exception, though, the team were well supported by ample donations from family, friends and well-wishers, and the relief at reaching the top of the South Downs was immense.

We’d like to say a big thank you to our team and all who supported them.  If you’d like to make a donation to one of our four charities, please visit our JustGiving page.

Diamond Jubilee celebrations in South West London unfurl in style with James Pendleton Estate Agents

True to form, the weather remained steadfastly drizzly during the Diamond Jubilee weekend, but good cheer was in the air! As Wandsworth and Lambeth residents set up street parties and lined the river banks in anticipation of the largest floating pageant in history, James Pendleton Estate Agency was very proud to be involved in such an amazing event.

Being towards the start of the royal route, the Battersea Park area overflowed with visitors waiting to see the flotilla in its early stages. At James Pendleton Estate Agents’ Battersea Park office, the team joined in wholeheartedly with the celebrations, offering up home-made cupcakes and Jubilee balloons to local residents and tourists.

Away from the river the streets of South West London were awash with cake, Pimm’s and bunting as The Queen’s loyal citizens celebrated her Highness’ Diamond Jubilee in style. The borough of Wandsworth held more street parties than any other in the UK and James Pendleton helped to ensure that local events went off with a bang. The ‘Award Winning Estate Agents’ were a firm presence at parties in Clapham, Battersea and Wandsworth, supplying events on Collamore Avenue, Lysias Road, Burntwood Grange Road and Wakehurst Road with sponsorship, balloons and goodies.

The organisers of Wandsworth and Lambeth’s many street parties did an amazing job of bringing neighbourhoods together producing fantastic food and atmosphere, and above all giving community cohesion the publicity it deserves. The James Pendleton team can testify that a fabulous time was had by all as raincoats were donned, cupcakes demolished and neighbours united. Take a look at some of the photos captured by the team and their neighbours, and raise your glass of Pimm’s to 2012, a fantastic year for London!
