Burning Celebration

It’s the time of year when Londoners with Celtic origins celebrate the birthday of Robert Burns. There were, as always, celebrations across London to mark one of the most important days in the Scottish calendar and the Mayor and Wandsworth council organised an excellent event locally, proudly sponsored by leading London estate agents James Pendleton.

The event, held at the Wandsworth Civic Suite, was organised in association with the Burns Club of London and guests were invited by the Mayor of Wandsworth. A fantastic four course meal was provided with drinks flowing throughout the night. Diners were treated to a superb programme of entertainment provided by mezzo soprano Lilly Papaioannou and speaker Bill Henry with a prizewinning rendition of “Tam o’ Shanter” among others.

As well as entertainment from north of the border, MP for Battersea Jane Ellison represented the local area, giving an entertaining speech and raising a toast to Wandsworth.

After the meal a ceilidh got into swing with music from the acclaimed Frank Reid Scottish Dance Band and guidance, for the benefit of non-Scots in the audience, from Scottish country dancing caller James Fairbarn. When all the dancing concluded it was time for carriages home.

Lee James Pendleton, Founder Director of James Pendleton estate agents said ‘We were delighted to be associated with this fantastic evening and look forward to future collaborations.’
