Local charity organisation goes the distance!

James Pendleton’s Live to Give team have taken on a diverse variety of charity challenges over the past months, from a remarkably snowy Spring pub quiz to a scaled-up version of family board game classic Operation held outside the estate agents’ Wandsworth Common office at the recent Bellevue Fair.  On the first weekend of September a team of ten cyclists braved the rain to take on the infamous London to Windsor cycle ride.

The South West London independent estate agents run a dedicated programme of charity events each year on behalf of three significant local causes: Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Trinity Hospice and Action for Children.  The organising team meets regularly to plan locally focused ways of raising awareness and vital funds and LivetoGive events are consistently a rousing success.

The route, which covers some stunning scenery between the Capital and another town with royal connections, is a well-known challenge in cycling circles and the team trained hard in the weeks before the event for a ride far longer than the average commute. With cycling ever more popular in London and beyond, the team have taken on two rides this year with a ride from London to Brighton in June proving a great success; see our earlier post for a great photo of the team outside James Pendleton Estate Agents’ Wandsworth Common on Bellevue Road.

The London to Windsor ride started well as the team headed from the Estate Agents’ Clapham South office on to the official start point six miles away.  This was followed by a gentle and scenic ride down the Thames tow-path through a landscape growing ever more green. Once in the countryside the weather took a turn for the worse, with even a much needed pit stop not doing enough to buy time and avoid the rain.

The torrents divided the team somewhat with an intrepid few braving the torrents and inevitably getting soaked whilst a savvy few stayed behind until the weather cleared!  All were eventually reunited and pushed on throughout the afternoon with no dropouts or injuries. Spirits were by no means as damp as clothes excitement mounted with the finish line in sight and the ride ended with a sprint as the riders in front competed for the fastest time in the group!

Lee, Sonja, Andrew, Rachel, Alice, Moe, David, Chris, James, Mark and Giles took on a tough challenge and did tremendously well in the name of charity. James Pendleton team and its charity committee did extremely well in organising this event, with special thanks extended to Kelly, the main co-ordinator.

Bellevue Fair’s giant Operation game: will you beat the clock?

James Pendleton Bellevue Fair Giant Operation

A sneak preview of James Pendleton’s Bellevue Fair Giant Operation game

The annual Bellevue Road Summer Fair is nearly upon us and promises entertainment, refreshments and excitement for all the family!  This year’s fair will take place on Saturday 7th September and local businesses along the picturesque local thoroughfare are busily setting up stalls which promise to make this year’s event particularly thrilling!  The team at James Pendleton Estate Agents’ Wandsworth Common office on Bellevue Road are no exception as this year they will be inviting local visitors to compete for a fantastic property prize in a scaled-up version of a challenging family favourite: Giant Operation.

A gigantic buzzer board game will be constructed outside the Estate Agents’ Wandsworth Common office on Bellevue Road for the duration of the day.  Visitors will have the chance to compete against their rivals and the clock in a contest that sees the person completing the challenge successfully in the quickest time walking away with an exciting prize!

The winner will receive a cash prize while runners up will walk away with bottles of bubbly.

Beside fun and games outside James Pendleton Estate Agents’ Wandsworth Common office there is a lot to keep visitors to Bellevue Fair occupied.  A dog show with special judge has been arranged to take place on the Common itself (to the delight of the area’s large dog walking contingent) and children’s fun centre Bertie and Boo will provide entertainment and a selection of local musicians will provide a perfect backdrop to stalls bustling with local wares.  For the celebrity spotters of Wandsworth, look out for property expert and television personality Phil Spencer who will be announcing the fair’s raffle winners.

James Pendleton’steam have provided a very useful money saving prize to the draw, allowing one lucky local to benefit from an ‘Angel for a day’, £250 worth of property maintenance costs covered by the company’s pioneering Angel department.  In short summary, this department is here to help homeowners by taking care of keys, organising home repairs and acting as an emergency point of contact, and the winner will be able to take advantage of the full service whether a property owner or not.  In addition the Angel department will recommend contractors for a range of jobs, on which the winner will save £250.

The company are delighted to be a contributor to the Fair, which has been carefully planned for several months by the Bellevue Road Residents’ Association.  The Association is made up of, and jointly run by, a number of local businesses and each month representatives including from James Pendleton Estate Agents’ Wandsworth Common team are able to have their say on how the local area operates.  Groups such as these do a huge amount for the community, representing local needs and using the power of numbers to make important changes.

Atlantic Row 2013 – an exceptional adventure for two Wandsworth locals

Wandsworth and Lambeth are two superb boroughs to live in if you’re a community minded, local-park-on-a-Sunday-afternoon kind of person.  Ours is an area where local initiatives flourish and new business ideas are given time to grow; in short, this is a special part of London and Dan Howie & Will North’s Atlantic Row challenge perfectly exemplifies South West London’s combination of friendliness and dynamism.

This local duo (Dan is based in Wandsworth Common, Will in Battersea) have done wonders to promote their challenge and the causes they’re supporting and have gathered a huge following in the local area and beyond including from Estate Agents in South West London. These causes are Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and St Anna’s, charities with which the pair have a strong connection (see their website for the full story).

Meet the team: Dan and Will

Meet the team: Will and Dan

It’s not too hard to see why Dan and Will’s challenge has gathered such a following; this is a crossing that only 300 intrepid explorers have even attempted to complete.  Made famous recently by Ben Fogle and James Cracknell’s widely publicised success, the challenge requires a gargantuan amount of physical and emotional endurance as well as an absolute necessary combination of self-reliance and team commitment.  It is the difficulties the pair face and the positivity with which they approach them that has captured the hearts of schools, retailers, local organisations and Estate Agents in Wandsworth, Battersea, Clapham and Fulham.

The boat...

The boat…

The trip will require Dan and Will to row one on one off in shifts of two hours.  To prepare for the strain this will place on their bodies the pair have embarked with enthusiasm upon a busy calendar of visits, promotional appearances and mini challenges alongside their rigorous training.  As Dan puts it, “If one of us is unable to make training one day, the other always tries to arrange a demo in front of a local business to raise awareness; that way they still get some training done!”  Look out for Dan or Will this summer in public spaces, shop fronts and events in South West London.

Dan and Will’s commitment and hard work have earned them publicity in local and national press and write their own dedicated blog so fans and followers can keep track.  As Estate Agents in South West London with a dedicated South West London blog and lively Social Media presence, we will be supporting their journey throughout; it is wonderful to see local residents setting such a good example to all!

A successful cycle ride for the LivetoGive team

IMG_2246

As fundraising teams go, James Pendleton Estate Agents’ South West London charity organisation LivetoGive is certainly active.  Since winning Trinity Hospice’s Best Charity Partnership with a Local Business award in December the team has plans aplenty in the pipeline and has organised a number of exciting events and initiatives in 2013 that you can discover here.

The latest of these was the long anticipated London to Brighton cycle ride, which saw ten representatives take to the streets on two wheels in the name of charity and raised a phenomenal £1657!  As ever, the team was fundraising for three causes with very strong local and company bonds: Action for Children, Trinity Hospice and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.  These three charities hold very great importance for this Estate Agents’ South West London team and LivetoGive has proactive links with all three: the charity organisation holds regular meetings with all three with fundraising innovation in mind.

Sunday’s 54 mile journey passed through James Pendleton Estate Agent’s South West London base, leading through Clapham, Tooting and Wandsworth on its way to the M25 before breaking out into open countryside on the way to East Sussex’s most famous destination, sometimes known as ‘London-By-The-Sea’.  The route includes some formidable hill climbs as well as many spectacular views and in LivetoGive’s prior experience of the ride there is no greater feeling than catching a first glimpse of the sea at the end of a day’s cycling!

The team are glad to report no injuries and a relatively incident free cycle.  Differing levels of training and ability meant a staggered finish for the ten but all were delighted to spot heart shaped James Pendleton balloons scattered through the crowd, one of which made it to the finish line on the back of a tandem ridden by two Blues Brothers!  As the photos show the team had a fantastic time and as the fundraising totals show they were amply supported by friends, family and well-wishers!  The team send their thanks to all who donated; if you’d like to contribute just pay a visit to LivetoGive’s JustGiving page.

To find out more about the latest and upcoming LivetoGive initiatives keep checking James Pendleton’s homepage: this Estate Agents in South West London posts regular news and updates on their charity organisation’s activities.  Alternatively visit the LivetoGive website.

Easter is fast approaching (though the weather would have you believe otherwise) and James Pendleton Estate Agents’ South West London team have been scouring the area for top seasonal family activities.  As spring begins to enliven green spaces and young faces alike, keep a look out for pastel colours, cute creatures and holiday activities at a park near you.  Alternatively, just take a quick look at our following top recommendations for Easter in Clapham, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Fulham and Battersea:

The wristband-entry theme park that is Clapham Common’s Easter Funfair attracts visitors for miles around and features rides and activities guaranteed to delight children and adults alike.  When you’re done enjoying the fair you’ll be able to walk off your candyfloss with a stroll around the Common.

Fulham Palace’s Easter Egg trail takes place on 30th March and 1st April and takes the form of a fun and informative children’s tour of the Palace with a chocolate reward at the end, all in one of the most beautiful settings in London.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home will be joining the Easter fun by holding an egg hunt with a twist: the team will hide carob and catnip eggs inside the pens and release for pets to sniff out.  You can support the charity’s Easter cause by donating an egg.

A host more animal themed activities are set to take place at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo over the Easter break.  From 29th March to 1st April children and families are invited to search for colourful eggs hidden in animal enclosures with the promise of a sugary treat on completion. For the rest of the Easter break a Golden Rabbit hunt and animal feeding activities are bound to bring a smile to local children’s faces!

Wandsworth, Lambeth and Hammersmith and Fulham councils have a range of activities available for young people of all ages, and local web stalwarts mumsnet.com and nappyvalleynet.com will be on hand to advise on local events.  Whether interested in sport, craft or learning there is bound to be something for your child in South West London this Easter holiday!

LivetoGive's Trinity Hospice Star Award

LivetoGive’s Trinity Hospice Star Award

The LivetoGive charity organisation is renowned for its original and successful fundraising events, which in 2012 have included two extreme endurance challenges, a long distance cycle challenge and numerous vibrant local events.  On 6th December 2012 the tables were turned as LivetoGive were invited to a stellar ceremony hosted by one of its four charities.

The Trinity Hospice Star Ball is a spectacular annual celebration of the South West London charity’s fundraising community.  Held in the plush Planit venue in Embankment, the evening’s entertainment included a giant human sized snow globe, a lively disco and a hotly contested charity auction.

The highlight of the night for the LivetoGive team came at the annual Star Awards ceremony, where the organisation’s fundraising efforts were rewarded with the Best Charity Partnership with a Local Business’ Award.  With a diverse and successful 2012 behind them the LivetoGive team have high hopes for next year and look forward to a wonderful future with Trinity and its other charity partners.
