As anyone who’s entered a supermarket, bought a magazine or switched on the TV this week will have noticed, the festive season is well and truly under way.  It’ll soon be time to start plan the decorations, hang the advent calendar and find out what the children would like Santa to bring.  There’s certainly a lot to plan, and St Faith’s School’s Christmas fair on 30th November is sure to help plenty of parents plan for the big day.

The Winter Wonderland themed event, to be held at the school on Alma Road between midday and 3pm, has been organised by the St. Faith’s Parent Teacher Association and is sponsored by Wandsworth based estate agents James Pendleton.  With fairground attractions, Santa’s Grotto and a special visit from a fire engine among the entertainment on offer there will be plenty to entertain the little ones whilst their parents browse the stalls for festive ideas from local businesses.

There will also be a raffle and silent auction featuring incredible locally supplied prizes:

1st– £300 cash
2nd – Wii U
3rd – £100 John Lewis vouchers
4th– £100 meal for four at Brady’s
5th– £100 voucher for a personalised cake

Best Local Businesses-Amirah’s Kitchen

The team at James Pendleton’s Wandsworth Town office recently had a fantastic evening out recently at Amirah’s Kitchen, a new Indian restaurant on Old York Road.

Amirah’s Kitchen came to Old York Road on 18th June and has quickly established itself as a friendly, quality restaurant serving exceptional Indian street food inspired dishes, and the head chef’s Michelin starred history promises exciting things for Wandsworth’s foodies.  The cuisine and hospitality at Amirah’s Kitchen certainly reflects an exceptional level of quality and we welcome this exciting new venue to Wandsworth Town.

Owner Arif Hussain kindly agreed to answer a few questions for us about his new business:

What inspired you to set up Amirah’s Kitchen?

I’ve always wanted to set up my own restaurant and after the birth of my first child I made sure I achieved it. I grew up watching my father and uncles working in their restaurants and worked in some myself during my teenage years and the inspiration came from that time.

Which dish(es) would you recommend to visitors?

All the food our chefs create are delicious but I would particularly recommend the Goan Fish Curry, Pepper Scallops, Punjabi Fried Fish, Lasooni Jhinga, Haryali Chicken Tikka, Saab Gosht and Dal Makhani. Of course we would love people to come and try the menu and let me know what they would recommend to others.

What are your food inspirations?

My inspiration is simple good cooking that everyone can enjoy and is taken from my travels to the Indian sub-continent, Nepal and the Far East. Our perception of good food depends on individual taste and we have included dishes from all around the Indian sub-continent to create a collection of street food inspired meals and appetisers.

What are your impressions of Old York Road?

I love Old York Road. It has an amazing buzz and the locals have been incredibly supportive. I’m really glad to have had the opportunity to open Amirah’s Kitchen in Wandsworth Town and hope that we become a lasting local landmark.

What are the benefits of eating out in South West London?

I’ve lived in South West London since I moved from Weybridge 4 years ago and I’ve found I don’t need to travel into central London for good food and great ambience.

Wandsworth Pub Quiz raises money for local charities

The teams get ready for a thrilling round of general knowledge!

James Pendleton’s ‘Live to Give’ charity organisation has since 2010 raised nearly  three thousand five hundred pounds for three local charities; Trinity Hospice, Action for Children and Perthes Association.  After a successful 2011 pub quiz which raised just over five hundred and fifty pounds, the ‘Live to Give’ team again headed to the wonderful Alma in Wandsworth Town for round two!

The event kicked off with the James Pendleton bake-off; members of the ‘Live to Give’ team festooned several tables with imaginatively decorated cupcakes in every colour imaginable.

As the teams arrived, the ‘Live to Give’ fundraisers busily sold cupcakes, raffle tickets and entries into the ‘Guess the Sweets in the Jar’ competition.  At 7:30, the quizmaster made a grand appearance in caveman attire, ready to put a wild spin on the evening with his (faux) leopard skin, Scary Spice hairdo and Captain Caveman themed bonus questions.

An atmosphere of intense concentration but good cheer came over the room as the questions were read out, with teams from James Pendleton Estate Agents, Coreco group, Action for Children, Trinity Hospice and other local organisations pitted against each other in a battle of wits and knowledge.

With the answers in and the scores totalled up, the winning team and recipients of the ‘LivetoGive’ prize winners’ trophy and Easter hamper were announced-Well done ‘Dickie’s Dodgy Dealers’ !

Congratulations are also in order to Kelly, deserving winner of the ‘LivetoGive’ bake off with her stupendous cupcakes, and to Mélanie, David, Darren and David, winners of the five fantastic raffle prizes!

In all, the ‘LivetoGive’ Pub Quiz; Round Two raised an incredible six hundred and twenty pounds for the three chosen charities!  Bring on Round Three!
